What if I told you that I could give you a single daily practice that would yield the following results in your life?
- Feeling spiritually stagnant will drop by 60%
- Feeling lonely will drop by 30%
- Sharing your faith will increase by 200%
- Discipling others will increase by 230%
- Anger issues will drop by 32%
- Bitterness in relationships will drop by 40%
Wouldn’t you begin implementing it immediately? Well, you can. Because all of the above results come from this single daily practice: reading your Bible.
In 2009, The Center of Bible Engagement published a document titled, “Understanding the Bible Engagement Challenge: Scientific Evidence for the Power of 4.”
As they compiled research, they found something astounding.
They found that those who engaged with the Bible once a week saw little to no effect from it. The same was true of those who engaged their Bible twice a week—basically no effect.
When someone engaged three times a week, there was a tiny increase in impact, but not much. Barely enough to be noticed. But this is where the findings got fascinating.
You might expect there to be a slow build from day three to day four. But that wasn’t the case. Once someone hit day four of regularly engaging with Scripture each week, the effects jumped off the charts. There was an immediate spike in impact.
In addition to the stats I listed above, the following were also true in the lives of those who engaged Scripture at least four times a week:
- Alcoholism dropped 57%
- Sex outside of marriage dropped 68%
- Viewing pornography dropped 61%
These three stats are incredible to me. If you’re someone who struggles with viewing pornography on a regular basis, what’s the single most effective thing you can immediately implement to fight that addiction? Yes, install Covenant Eyes or some other software. Yes, get an accountability partner. Do those things. But you can immediately see a 61% decrease simply by reading your Bible every day.
I think of the words of Psalm 119:9, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”
You want to grow in sharing your faith more consistently? Read the Bible every day.
You want to get that anger issue under control? Read the Bible every day.
You want to shake off that unwanted feeling of spiritual stagnation? Read the Bible every day.
As we head into 2026, there is no more impactful single practice that you could implement than that.
