Presentation & Prayer Zoom Gathering, May 30, at 9:00 am MT
During this ministry year cycle (September 2023 – May 2024), the EFC is offering timely Presentations and Prayer on acute social and spiritual issues. A roster of specialized EFC staff will present an issue followed by Q and A and prayer. We believe informed, strategic, and united prayer can influence the social and spiritual issues of our nation.
In February, Bill C-63 was introduced in the House of Commons to address online harms. It’s a lengthy and complex bill still in its early stages with three main sections. The first section would impose responsibilities on online platforms and social media services related to seven categories of online harm, including content that sexually victimizes a child and that foments hatred or incites violence. The second section proposes changes to the Criminal Code. It adds a new stand-alone hate crime offense and adds hate crime offenses to the peace bond provisions. The third section proposes changes to the Canadian Human Rights Act, to allow human rights complaints about online speech. For a more detailed look at Bill C-63 click here.
EFC Staff will give a brief summary of the key points of the Bill and highlight areas of concern, followed by Q and A and strategic prayer.
